Colleen Hart

Colleen Hart (M.Mus (Wits); LRSM) is a classical musician by training whose love of traditional African music and marimbas has inspired this collection. She is a free-lance musician, teacher, Director of Music of St Thomas’ Anglican Church, Linden, Johannesburg, and Special Commissioner to the Royal School of Church Music (SA Northern Branch). Her next project is to record and notate a collection of traditional African religious songs. Colleen is married to Charles, an organ builder by trade.

This two-volume collection of marimba music notation presents original and arranged pieces from all over the world – religious, secular, popular, and traditional pieces ranging from easy to difficult. Most pieces are arranged for diatonic C marimbas with an added F#. Separate lines are provided for Piccolo, Soprano, Tenor and Baritone instruments. Some arrangements are scored for larger groups. The songs are easily legible in clear Sibelius staff notation. The collection is suitable for schools, churches, and marimba bands.

The books include chapters on ‘The History of the Marimba’ by Joan Lithgow, ‘An Introduction to African Music’ by Geoffrey Tracey, ‘Teaching Techniques’ by Ross Johnson, and ‘Improvisation Techniques’ by Dave Dargie.
